...I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since I last posted.
The job search is going OK. I had a couple of interviews that I hope lead into something. They will make a decision by the end of the week. Keep your fingers crossed!!
Alexa is talking more and more every day. I think being around the babysitters 3 year old is helping. She is starting to put 2 words together, sometimes it sounds kind of like one word, but she is trying!
She has also started sitting on the potty. When she was telling me her diaper was poopy, I thought it was time to start the association. We just sit on it several times through out the day, if she goes great, but most of the time she just sits there and looks at a book and then gets up and says "done", and there is nothing in there. Now when she toots, or starts to poo, she says "potty", but doesn't know how to hold it until we get to the potty.
Kyle's first race went pretty good. It was a 6-hour solo race. He achieved his goal of completing 6 laps in 6 hours and placed, I believe, 13th or 14th. Not too bad for his first time doing a solo semi-endurance race. At least last year I think he did it as a team. It's hard for me to remember!!
His training is going pretty good. Now that it is warmer he's been able to get out and do some longer rides, especially on the weekends.
I realized the other day too, that I never posted a pic of my brother's new baby! So here he is:

Not much...
...going on here.
I've been looking at going back to work full-time. Long story, don't really want to get into it. Basically I was going to wait until Alexa turned 2, but circumstances have changed that. Not really ready for it, but it has to be done! So the last few weeks have been job searching and figuring out what I really want to do. I really don't want to go back to full on accounting if I don't have to, so I'm going to try the Office Admin route for now.
Kyle is starting to train more and has his first race in MO next weekend (Mar. 17th). He is going to get into the St. Paddy spirit and make sure everything in his water bottles is green! I can't really tell if he is ready for this race. It is a 6 hour solo race. Yep, that's right he'll be racing for 6 hours straight! Crazy if you ask me!
Have a great week!!

The meet is over!
Our big Sectional Swim Meet is over and it went really well! We started the day at 8:00am and was out of Valley by 5:00pm! We then had to unload the van at the YMCA, but that only took about 30 min. Not bad for all the prep work that had to be done for the meet. I still don't know how Sara does it on top of all her other duties at the YMCA....she is a super-woman!! Good Job Sara!
Now I get to start a new work routine. Alexa will be going to a babysitter on Tues and Thurs afternoons so I can help out at the Y more and get a little bit of exercise time in. Hopefully she will do good. I'll re-evaluate once this pool schedule is done and see if I should continue or go back to just 3 hours at the Y each day for the summer.
Kyle and I are headed up to MN this weekend for a vacation. Alexa will be with G'ma and G'pa Sedore. They will have fun! She has changed some since they last saw her. She is saying and repeating more words and is getting more and more independent. It will be interesting to talk to them after the weekend.
Not much else...have a GREAT week!

quick post...
Just a quick post today...
We got our carpet! It looks great! Too bad we had to deal with so much just to get it.
Alexa had her first play in the snow. I didn't have boots for her, so I took little baggies and put them on her feet and then put her shoes on. We only stayed out for about 10 minutes, but she loved it!
Things are crazy getting ready for the Sectional swim meet. It will all be over on the 11th...then things will be pretty laid back. Maybe I'll even get more time to work out and get in shape for this summer!
Have a great week!

No Carpet yet...
The installer called on Sunday and he was already iced in his driveway so we rescheduled for Thursday! I just want my carpet!!! Hopefully nothing will happen before Thursday.
Saturday and Sunday Kyle went out for a ride in the extremely cold temperatures! Alexa and I opted to stay in and enjoy the warmth of the house. Hopefully it won't be as cold for the BRR ride that I am signed up for on Feb. 3rd. If it is you can put me in the same crazy category! Kyle can't ride this year as he has to work, so I am going to hitch a ride to Perry with Julie Goodman and we are going to brave it together! I better get a few spin classes in before then!
Swim season is starting to wind down. We are hosting our last dual meet this weekend and then will host the BIG sectional meet on Sunday Feb. 11th. The Sectional meet is really fun. We host 8 other teams and it is usually around 300 swimmers. It is definitely an all day affair. We start with set-up at 8:00am and the meet doesn't get done until around 5:00pm! Makes for some good pay! The meet is for the swimmers to qualify for state. Our goal is to get 95% qualified this year. They have been swimming good and dropping times all season, so it looks like we might get it accomplished.
Have a great week!

Now it's cold...
...CRAZY COLD! Below zero temps and lots of snow headed our way! I don't remember this at all last year. Hopefully it will only last a couple of days...cross your fingers.
Anyway, enough about that. Not much going on here except for working and taking care of Alexa!
We get new carpet in the living room on Monday! YEEEHAAWWW.....I'm so excited, our carpet right now is so gross! We were hoping to have it by Christmas, but Lowe's had the wrong phone # for the installer so he obviously couldn't get a hold of us! I had to call Lowe's and ask why the heck we hadn't heard from him! AAUUGHH.....so beware if you use Lowe's! I actually wasn't impressed with the whole experience. Will definitely look into other options when we got to put laminate in the kitchen!
And now...picture time!

a Mt Bike for me???
So we have been searching online for a used Mt Bike...after not much luck, Kyle went down to talk to Irwin's Kyle about some options for me. Looks like Redline might be coming out with a Monocog 1x9. I'll have to see if it happens, but I think it may be a good option for me.
Nothing too expensive for my first couple of years and I hate trying to shift gears so this way it will be less gears to worry about!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
My only "resolution" for this year is to continue to work out and get fit so that I can try a Mountain Bike race or two!
I have set a goal for myself to get more than 500 miles on my bike this year. I know to some that is a very small mileage goal, but for me it is significant as I am very accomodating to Kyle and his training!
I plan to ride to the Y with Alexa as much as possible and find a babysitter for one night a week every week this summer so I can just go out and ride!

Another Great Christmas!
We headed up to the metropolis of Marcus, IA this year to spend Christmas with the Voetberg's! We arrived late Saturday night and I met up with my best friend to go have a couple of drinks at the local bar and ended up running into all kinds of people I knew. It was definitely the night to be out!
Christmas Eve Kyle got some gravel grinding in! He took the 30 mile round trip out to my sister's house. He had a head wind on the way there and even though he had a tail wind on the way back, he said it didn't help since the ground was so mushy! He had a good ride and was passed by only 2 cars the whole time.
Christmas Eve night we had supper and opened gifts, we even got my brother (who lives in Rome, NY) in the action by calling and having him open his gift from Kyle. His wife wouldn't let him open any more since it wasn't actually Christmas day yet....don't argue with someone 8 months pregnant! Love ya Ben and Courtney...miss ya!!
Anyway, here are a couple pictures from the past 2 days....
Alexa loving the bows and of course we had to put it on her head! Her stretching makes her look even littler than she is!
This years family picture by Mom and Dad's tree. Not the best picture as Alexa was squirming and our camera wasn't cooperating fast enough, but at least we have one!
Alexa enjoying her new crayons that she got to open when we arrived home Christmas afternoon. Also by her are some new books and her ABC Leap Frog.

One Year/Christmas pictures
Here are a couple of Alexa's one year pics. I had them done at Target, but might try Portrait Innovations for her next ones, I have heard great things about them! I wasn't completely satisfied with Target this time.

Early Christmas!
We had Christmas with Kyle's parents and Uncle Kurt on Sat Dec. 16th. I took more video than pictures, but here are a couple.
Kyle and Kurt have a contest going on who can "wrap" their presents better. There have been some interesting ideas....last year Kyle took Macaroni noodles and glued them all over the package until you couldn't see the wrapping paper....well this year I think Kurt really out did h
im!
Here is Kyle with his "pinata". Kurt took cement and "wrapped" Kyle's present. Kyle proceeded to take a pic-ax to the cement and found a tube with a bunch of candy and a note telling him his "real" present was in Kurt's car! He then had to un-wrap a package secured with packing tape to reaveal the movie "Talladega Nights". Thanks for the entertainment Kurt!
(You may be able to see Kurt grinning in the background)

Last but not least.......Caring
This I feel is one of the most important values everyone has, but does not always show.
I've always heard many complaints of the Bell Ringers outside of stores and in the DM Skywalks. I personally put something in each time I see one. Even if it is just a small handful of pennies. I feel it is the caring side in me....I'm a sucker for helping people in need! I've had to learn to say no to some charities this Season just because me only working part time does not allow as much.
Anyway, here are some quotes I found about Caring:
George Washington Carver: "How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these."
"The most important thing in any relationship is not what you get but what you give.... In any case, the giving of love is an education in itself."
— Eleanor Roosevelt
“A smile is the light in your window that tells others that there is a caring, sharing person inside.” Denis Waitley

Don't lose sight of Christmas.....Celebrate!

I have heard so much this Christmas season about the true meaning of Christmas and how the stores take away so much of it.
To me Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ.
But it is also being with friends and family, helping the less fortunate if I can, and enjoying all the lights, decorations and celebrations of the season.
This excerpt is borrowed from another blog (Jonathonscloset.blogspot.com) I read and I think it is something we should all think about:
For those who want to debate the origin of Christmas, here is the truth: The Christmas season is a combination of Christian (Roman Catholic) and Pagan winter celebrations. It incorporates Christian religious ceremonies (the event that fills us with so much joy and gladness that we celebrate it each year, with more attention than for any other event; it is the entrance of Jesus Christ into our world. It is the living proof that, "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life" -John 3:16) with the traditions of ancient winter festivals such as Yule (the winter solstice celebration of the Germanic pagans) and Saturnalia (the feast at which the Romans commemorated the dedication of the temple of the god Saturn). What emerged after Constantine came into power were religions that had borrowed some rituals and incorporated holidays from each other’s cultures.
The real meaning of Christmas is being lost by groups on the left who think it is 100% pagan and groups on the right that believe it’s 100% religious. It is a weaving of both and therefore both need to be observed. If someone is so easily offended by a Nativity scene or a Star of David or even a Kwanzaa wreath, they should be ridiculed as ignorant and intolerant and be sent on their way!
Christmas is a time to find someone less fortunate than you and give a gift from your heart. It is a time to be with your family. It is a time to reconnect or repair friendships, to give your fellow man a smile and wish them Merry Christmas and if they get offended, they’ll get over it. The changes start with one person and snowball from there. Be that one person who breaks from the norm and remembers what the season is really all about. In the end, it doesn't really matter what you do to have a more spiritual holiday; only that you do something.
So, no matter how you decide to celebrate this Holiday Season; You will hear me say MERRY CHRISTMAS! I will accept any greeting you decide to give me. It comes down to the feeling in your heart and nothing else!

The next value: RESPONSIBILITY
Every day I think of all that I do and how it makes me a better person. Even when it is tough to do, I take responsibility for my actions.
Now that I have another life to take responsibility for; my wonderful daughter Alexa! I feel that extra pressure from the world today. I just hope that I can give her the best and teach her to be the best person that she can be by really believing in my values and taking responsibility for all my actions around her!
Take your life in your own hands, and what happens? A terrible thing: no one to blame. ~Erica Jong
Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else. ~Les Brown
Don't spend your precious time asking "Why isn't the world a better place?" It will only be time wasted. The question to ask is "How can I make it better?" To that there is an answer. ~Leo F. Buscaglia

Quotes for the day....Honesty
Another of our values we adhere by at the YMCA is Honesty. I truly believe this is the one people find the hardest to do. I myself struggle with honesty some days. I can be REALLY good at telling "little white lies". I have found that even the little ones come back to kick you in the butt later in life. This is one value that I truly have had to work the hardest on!
One of the hardest things in this world is to admit you are wrong. And nothing is more helpful in resolving a situation than is frank admission. ~ Benjamin Disraeli
The man who cannot endure to have his errors and shortcomings brought to the surface and made known, but tries to hide them, is unfit to walk the highway of truth. ~ James Allen
An honest man can feel no pleasure in the exercise of power over his fellow citizens. ~ Thomas Jefferson
A true friend will tell you the truth to your face - not behind your back. ~ Sasha Azevedo
Each time you are honest and conduct yourself with honesty, a success force will drive you toward greater success. Each time you lie, even with a little white lie, there are strong forces pushing you toward failure. ~ Joseph Sugarman

Watch the runways...here comes Alexa!
Vacation was GREAT....but it's always good to be back home! This week has been a lot of getting back into the routine of things. Also wonderful to see Alexa again...I was really starting to miss her!!
In other news...Alexa is starting her modeling career next Wednesday the 4th! I had her in the pool area at the Y one day and a lady swimming laps was gushing over her and asked if I minded if she could be a model for Jolesch photography? At first I didn't know what to think, but then gave her my name and number. She called yesterday and we have it scheduled. She is going to use one of the pictures in their main lobby...poster size! And possibly use some of the pictures in one of their mailings. I get a free 8x10 out of the deal, and no sitting fee of course!
Alexa is also starting to walk! She takes any where up to 7-8 steps and then either falls or decides it's easier to crawl! I'm happy and sad at the same time. Happy she is progressing so well for 10 months and sad that my baby isn't going to be a baby for long...she'll be a VERY mobile toddler!

The 4Runner can off-road

Here are the 4 of us down by Mohawk lake after a little off-roading. The 4Runner held up awesome for this part.

Here is the 4Runner showing off its off-road skills. This was the end point of a 1/2 mile jeep trail. I was VERY nervous!! It definitely was more off-road than going to Mohawk lake!! We were too nervous to stop and take some pics while actually on the jeep trail!!

slow news week
Not a lot happening in the Sedore household this week. Kyle and I are getting ready to head out to Breckenridge, CO for the week. Alexa is going to stay with G'ma & G'pa Sedore while we are there. We are going with friends of ours and hope to get LOTS of bike riding in. Especially the guys. I guess they have some 6am rides planned! I'll be enjoying my sleeping in for the week!
Will try and post some pics while we are out there!

Thought for the day...Respect
We have 4 main core values that we follow at the YMCA....the first is Respect....just remember that if you respect yourself....others will respect you too!
"Don't rely on someone else for your happiness and self worth. Only you can be responsible for that. If you can't love and respect yourself - no one else will be able to make that happen. Accept who you are - completely! The good and the bad - and make changes as YOU see fit - not because you think someone else wants you to be different".
and
There comes a time when you have to stand up and shout: "THIS IS ME DAMN IT! I look the way I look, think the way I think, feel the way I feel, love the way I love! I am a whole complete package. Take me...or leave me. Accept me...or walk away! Do not try to make feel like less of a person just because I don't fit your idea of who I should be and don't try to change me to fit your mold. If I need to change, I alone will make that decision".
When you are strong enough to love yourself 100%, good and bad...you will be amazed at the opportunities that life presents you!

24-hour Weekend
We have Alexa back and the week was good. I got some stuff done and some time to help out at the Y and get ready for the 24-hour race.
The race went good. Kyle's team was in second starting the night, but decided that they were all tired and didn't really care if they got a prize or not so they stopped for the night and got some rest. Congrats to Jane for doing her first night lap! She pushed herself past her comfort zone and enjoyed it!
